Misty mountains surrounding the Southern Appalachian Region create a haven for artists and those who love the art of nature. Blue Ridge, Ga., a small town, sits at the gateway of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the foothills of the Smoky Mountain Range. Blue Ridge is known for its railroad, its unique shops, its outdoor recreation, as well as its abundance of artists, who have settled in this mountainous cocoon. The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (the Art Center), a non-profit organization, has, for over 25 years, been the center for the arts in this region, providing the joy of discovering mountain arts and crafts. Consider a colorful tale from a mountain storyteller, sweet dulcimer tones, the intricacy of kudzu basketry, the magic of quilting, clogging to bluegrass, mountain music echoes, as well as an oral history for remembering. For other forms of self-expression through art, try oils, mosaic tiles, gourds, woodcarving, ballet, watercolors, drawing, sculpture, tie dye, the art of fairy house building, collage, plein air painting, photography, writing, poetry, and stained glass. All the classes are taught by local and visiting artists and writers. From children to adults, the Art Center offers year-round classes and events that are unparalleled in the region.
The Southern Appalachian Artist Guild is an organization of artists, who have come to promote the education and the economic development of the artists and the art of the region.
